Sugar Cookies (1 Posts)

I have seen pictures and read about them and my daughters Valentine cookies look very delectable. She told how to make the cookie dough, place some in a piping bag with liquid enough to make it like a butter cream frosting, then you put food coloring and pipe the dough around the edges of the sugar cookies and then bake the whole thing. It makes an edge around the cookie so that you can make a thin icing and place in the centers of the cookies and the edge holds the thin liquid in. Sort of dams it in. I hopefully get to try some this week.
gingerbread house (1 Posts)

I watched my son, Kel, make a Gingerbread house with the grandchildren. He first drew up the design and the size. Made the gingerbread dough and rolled it out and cut out the shapes and baked them. Next he made the Royal Icing to stick it together with, and then they proceeded to stick it all together. They used regular frosting in assorted colours to decorate with, they also used hard candies in the cookie dough windows to melt to look like stained glass windows. They used all kinds of different candies, M&Ms, sprinkles, candycanes, anything that looked bright and shiny. It looked quite remarkable when they all finished.
English fruitcake with marzipan (1 Posts)

Watched my daughter finish up the fruitcake that she made for Christmas for her youngest brother. It looked absolutely yummy!! I watched her make the marshmallow fondant, roll it out and cover the cake with it. She then proceeded to cut out flowers to put on it, and a bow. It really looks easy to do, she layered the marzipan before she placed the fondant on top. It was absolutely the best fruitcake, much denser than American fruitcake.
Marshmallow fondant (2 Posts)

I have watched my daughter make a new fondant from marshmallows and karo syrup. She puts it in a double boiler to melt it down, then puts it on a board with powdered sugar, so it can cool down and be workable. I have seen her make babies, booties, dolls, skirting on cakes, lego cake, all using this fondant and she colours them to look the way she wants. I think you could use a pasta maker to roll it out in the thickness you need, it would probably be easier than rolling it over and over. Possibilities here....

I think that if I had to I could decorate a Big Bird cake, if it were in the right shape. I have watched and observed how it is done, with a squirt and pull up as you go, for each feather. It really looks quite amazing finished.
Attempts at roses (1 Posts)

My daughter makes it look so easy to makes a beautiful rose. She takes this nail thing with a very large flat head, and starts going around and around and Lo and behold! A Rose! When I attempt the same thing, I get this poor little muddled looking lump of frosting. Most definitely not a rose. Maybe with years of practise, possibly a bud?

I love to watch my daughter decorate all the cakes. She does such a fantastic job on each and every cake she does. She has the imagination and talent to make them a success and beautiful at the same time.
