baby blanket just in time (1 Posts)
Last Post 08-12-06 17:27
I just finished a basket weave baby blanket for a friend's baby and it arrived just[/1] in time for her baby's arrival. It was exciting, and it made up the abuse I had to take from a knitting shop owner about how I should buy wool regardless (meanwhile, my friend would prefer acrylic baby yarn).

Knitting while you watch tv? (1 Posts)

It must take a skilled knitter because I did a bunch of knitting while watching a show with subtitles this weekend (that may have pushed the envelope) and had to unravel several rows. Cry.

I have never knitted before but I'm going to buy some yarn and start learning tomorrow with a book I got at the library. I hope it will not be harder than crochet!

Church of Craft has a New York group. I was on the CofC mailing list for a while but never was able to attend any of the events. The site looks a little outdated at this point.

For years I have heard about this place and not bothered to go because I envision it to be competitive shopping. But this year I am going to give it a go. Smiley's Yarn sale will be held this November 28 - Dec 2 at the Holiday Inn on W. 57th, NYC. More info is here: http://www.pagelinx.com/cgi-shopper/loadpage.cgi/smileysyarns/ezshopper?user_id=id&file=riot.htm Also big upcoming 75% off sale in their store on Jamaca Ave beginning Oct 5 ... anyone every go there? What is it like? Worth the trip?

Seed stitch (3 Posts)
Last Post 28-09-06 21:00
I am fairly new to knitting and just beginning this pattern from the Knit Knack kit or whatever it's called--in the pattern it says cast on 105 stitches and do the first 5 rows in seed stitch. So, I look up seed stitch in the book that comes in the kit, and it says that seed stitch is done in even stitches. So, I was totally confused and not really surprised when I followed the pattern and saw that what was supposed to look bumpy was looking ribbed. Bottom line: When doing seed stitch in odd number, do Knit1 Purl1 for every row rather than alternating.
