I am a father of just 1 kid. I happened to read The Magical Child by Joseph Chilton Pearce when my wife was pregnant - 17 yrs. ago. The author had a very good discussion on mother's milk and I convinced my wife to apply when the child was born. Aside from the nourishment it gives, the psychological, emotional and intellectual stability of the child is put on a good foundation. Hello - I wanted to say hi and let you all know why I am here. First of all I have 3 kids and no, none of them are babies. However I nursed all 3 of them and I am here to help those who may have questions, etc. I hope that is ok with the moderator :)

I have to say I think the picture on Baby Talk's August issue was adorable. I do not see anything wrong with it what so ever. Breastfeeding is a natural thing and you breastfeeding mom's should be proud of what you are doing for your baby. Also I feel that we should know the laws as far as breastfeeding is concerned. Not growing to doctor's expectations (1 Posts)

I went to the doctor for my weight check yesterday. He is now 3 months and is 10 lbs. He weighed 6lbs 9 ozs at birth but lost 9 ozs by the first appt because he was not latching on properly. I went to a lactation class and got some help and now he eats for 30 minutes at a time every 3 hours. This last month he gained 2 lbs and I was very excited to take him to the doctor so she could see that he was growing. But instead she said that he should be at 12 lbs and she wants me to supplement with formula. i don't know what to do. I don't want to supplement because I feel like if I do I will give up on the breastfeeding or he will stop latching on properly again. I feel like she forgot about the struggle we had at the beginning and isn't taking that into account. When I researched it online I found that a 2 lb gain in the 2nd going on 3rd month was a great gain, but do I do as the doctor says or do I continue with the breastfeeding since it seems to be going well? I don't want my son to be starving but he doesn't seem to be anyway. This is all so frustrating and I don't think it helps that I have a doctor that doesn't even have kids of her own. What should i do?

Well Sam started his 3 month growth spurt last night. Hopefully this one won't last as long. The 9 week growth spurt lasted a whole week. Eating every hour just really tires a mom out. Thank God I only have him to keep track of!=) I really respect you mom's that are breastfeeding with more than one kid. I think I would go nuts. I don't get sleep as it is. In my breastfeeding class there is a lady breastfeeding twins right now. I don't now how she does that.=) You mom's are amazing.

Well we took Sam out to eat with us to Mario's yesterday. Of course as usual he was the center of attention in the restaraunt. =) He was a perfect angel though. He is only 3 months now and was awake almost the whole time.
