ok. I understand that sometimes a designer will throw something out there, in an attempt to mix things up a little bit. This is clear. However, I don't understand the persistence of what I call, "The Tent Dress". You know the ones I mean - straps, a straight hem across the breastbone, and then, tent. I think they could be also referred to as "Trapeze Dresses". Whatever you want to call them, they're horribly ugly, and pretty much universally unflattering. It seems kind of contradictory that they would be hanging on as a mainstream item these days - especially with the victorious return to the feminine for the spring. On the opposite end of the spectrum - we have the glorious body skimming, tailored looks for women from some of the most highly regarded names in the biz - notably, Calvin Klein (welcome back Cal - haven't paid attention to you since 1997!), Helmut Lang (YAY!), Prada (you guys know that my mantra up until that horrible line that came out in 2000[?] was: I'm a Prada girl, in a Prada world. I'll leave it at that).... Zac Posen.... the list goes on and on! It's time we left these horrible, body morphing, tent dresses behind, and wore dresses that flattered the shapes that we have! Nothing looks better than something that fits you perfectly - it's time to get out of the burlap sack, and show off what you've got! ;-)

how I love thee, let me count the ways.... ok, I won't count them, but trust me, I love ya a lot. I love the new ad campaign - it's ever so chic - very well done. and the dresses for this spring?! outrageous! Missoni is single handedly making it difficult for me to go into bloomingdales, because of their prominent placement (bloomingdales is the MOTHER SHIP - preventing me from entering is like preventing me from EATING. IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT). All these beautiful dresses right next to the escalator.... begging to be mine... Ladies, if you are not already familiar with this fantastic Italian brand, please take a step towards righting the situation - check out their spring collection for 07, and their most recent fall / winter. It's amazingly wearable, understated - yet anything but dull. I absolutely adore it!

meh... sometimes I have a really hard justifying such beautiful gowns and pieces of art walking down a red carpet on someone who clearly has no clue how to wear it. cate blanchett looked awesome - and I loved her choice of silver - far from the been there done that white of the golden globes. Penelope Cruz - people didn't like her dress, but I thought it was fun - it was frothy and couture, and pink - what else is an oscar dress SUPPOSED to be ladies?! other than that, I was pretty much bored to tears. that, and I had the worlds most horrible flu - so I could have been crying from that.

Ladies - as I'm sure you understand, I'm constantly on the prowl for the perfect jean. I don't mind dropping a few bucks on them, seeing how I wear them so frequently. However, there are SO many "couture" denim makers out there today, trying them all on to get the perfect fit, well - it's just not really an option (unless of course you are rich and don't need to work, and can spend your day shopping. In which case, I hate you). Check out this website (featured in a recent issue of InStyle Magazine), and it can make some recommendations for you based on your answers to a few questions. Naeem Khan (those dresses - holy jesus - outrageously gorgeous!);Phillip Lim (Not Quite A Winner - no one would know that it was inspired by Grey Gardens. seriously Phil. Get it together.); Max Azria (what can I say here - that was ALL OVER THE PLACE. there is something to be said for TOO much volume? but some pieces were stunning...); Monique Lhuillier (fantastic - but her models - yikes) I'll check back in a couple days! 2 dresses in 3 days. I'm broke as a joke, but wow! what great dresses are available this season! Great shapes and prints from the incomparable DVF, a GORGEOUS piece from Missoni - it makes me wish with all my heart that I could relive some Studio 54 Days. Fortunately, I'm too young. ;-) Either way, great things - all great things! Check out Bloomingdales if you get a few - they're having a great sale, and as usual, the basics are reasonably priced.

You may have noticed this site listed as one of my favorites, but, in case you haven't - go check it out! Shinyshiny.tv is a fantastic, self-proclaimed "girls guide to gadgets" - and for those of us that know -GADGETS- are a girls "other" best friend.... The post I saw this morning that made me want to share with my fellow fashion minded females, is introducing the first iPod controlling, AND FASHIONABLE coat. Don't get me wrong - there are other coats out there - but neither you nor I would be caught dead in them.
