Aimee Anne Duffy born on June 23, 1984 in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales, known professionally as Duffy , is a Welsh singer-songwriter. Undeterred, Duffy began performing with various bands throughout her teen years and, around 2004, agent and Rough Trade owner Jeannette Lee, helped nurture the young singer's talent by pairing her up with former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler. The duo co-wrote several songs, including the single "Rockferry," which revealed Duffy 's knack for a Stax- and Motown-influenced pop sound. Duffy 's debut album entitled Rockferry, was released in 2008. Duffy is the first Welsh female to achieve a number one pop single in the past 25 years with her second single Mercy.
