Hinder is an American band from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma that was formed in 2001 by drummer Cody Hanson, guitarist Joe 'Blower' Garvey, and Singer Austin Winkler. The three were the formed nucleus of Hinder, they began singing cover songs at a collage party followed by landing gigs opening for local acts like the Theory of a Deadman. They released their first EP titled "Far From Close" on an independent record label, Brickden Records. It sold about 5,000 copies. Then began working on new material in 2004 for their next independent release. These demos caught the attention of several major record labels.
