Weezer was founded by rivers Cuomo, Jason cropper, Matt Sharp, and Pat Wilson in Los Angeles on February 14, 1992. The band began writing and playing at local clubs in Los Angeles. Not having much success, the band kept on pushing forward. 16 months being together, playing shows and recording demos in Los Angeles, dgc records (Geffen) signed Weezer. Weezer moved to New York to record at the famed electric lady studios under producer Ric Ocasek (of cars fame). During the recording of self –entitled album Weezer, Jason left the band to take care of his wife with child. Brian Bell, bassist from a band called carnival art replaced Jason.

On May 10, 1994, Weezer's self-titled debut album was released and was a hit from the start. They released three singles from Weezer: "undone - the sweater song", "buddy holly", and "say it ain't so". "buddy holly" won several awards that year. Weezer went double-platinum. After tours around the US and the world; rivers went to school at Harvard, Matt and Pat worked on a new band named the rentals, and Brian resumed work with a former band of his, the Spacetwins. Winter of 95 to summer of 96, Weezer hit the studio, this time producing the album themselves.

On September 24th 1996, second LP, entitled Pinkerton, was released. Opposite to the first album released; guitars are gruffer, the lyrics having deeper meaning, along with the band's talent and style had matured greatly. Weezer released three songs from the album: "el scorcho", "the good life", and "pink triangle". This Album soon went gold in record sales and has sold steady since. In 1998 Rivers & Mikey played shows together in Boston.
Rivers and Mikey joined Brian and pat in Los Angeles and had rehearsal sessions over the next couple of years. Rivers devoted some time to "homie" which released one song, Brian released a couple of records with his Spacetwins, while Pat and Mikey toured.
In 2000 Weezer booked dates on that summer's Wharped Tour, and a nationwide club tour. The band dates sold out instantly. Overwhelming fan responses and new material, Weezer was back. A Christmas song e.p. was distributed to fans and radio stations and shortly. Weezer began recording their 3rd album, entitled “the green album" in Los Angeles. Shortly after changes occurred once again, Mikey was replaced by bass heavyweight Scott Shriner. The band then released their 4th album, Maladroit, which was released in May 2002.
